Establishment of the UNESCO Chair at the University of Thi-Qar

Announcement of the establishment of the UNESCO Chair on Water, Climate Resilience, and Indigenous Community Heritage at the University of Thi-Qar, focused on the Mesopotamian Marshlands and preserving the region’s cultural and environmental heritage.

We are pleased to announce that UNESCO has approved the establishment of a UNESCO Chair on Water, Climate Resilience, and Indigenous Community Heritage at the University of Thi-Qar in Nasiriyah, Iraq.

This Chair will support research, teaching, and community engagement focused on the Mesopotamian Marshlands, strengthening climate resilience and preserving the area’s unique cultural and environmental heritage.

The UNESCO Iraq Office congratulates the University of Thi-Qar and looks forward to supporting the implementation of this important initiative.
